21st Portuguese Congress on Obesity

CIPER | Self-Regulation research group was represented at the 21st Portuguese Congress on Obesity (SPEO) in Aveiro, Portugal (November 24-26). Marlene N. Silva and António Palmeira participated in a Symposium on the promotion of motivation and self-regulation for weight management. Eliana Carraça gave a talk on the individual and environmental attributes of the Spotlight project participants. More information about this event HERE.

Inês Santos, PhD, was the winner of the Young Nutritionist Merit Award 2017 attributed by the Portuguese Nutritionists Association (Ordem). She received the award on November 22 and was distinguished for her dissertation work at FMH in the CIPER | Self-Regulation research group.

EuroFIT consortium meeting

Between November 21-23, Marlene Silva and Hugo Pereira participated in the EuroFIT consortium meeting, in Edinburgh. Dissemination strategies for the last year of the project (roll out licensing system, publications, dissemination) were the main topic under discussion. More information about this project HERE.

On November 14-15, coaches from Braga and Rio Ave football clubs received their coach training, together with some former FMH-University of Lisbon students. These clubs will start recruitment and plan to begin the EuroFIT program in January 2018. The training occurred at the home of the Portuguese National Team, and was led by Marlene Silva and Hugo Pereira, with the assistance of former EuroFIT coaches from SL Benfica and FC Porto. Inês Santos, researcher at the PANO-SR Research Group, successfully defended her doctoral dissertation titled "Attempting and achieving weight loss and maintenance." on September 21 at Faculty of Human Kinetics, University of Lisbon.

On September 15-16, the 6th Annual Symposium of the European Initiative for Exercise in Medicine took place in Lisbon. The Faculty of Human Kinetics (FMH – UL) and the Directorate-General of Health (DGS) co-organized the symposium that brought together national and international experts on Exercise, Medicine and Health.
